The SITREP: Cobra Gold Begins, Howitzer Gets New Look & More

From the military services and around the DoD, here’s your SITREP for Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017.

    • Amphibious transport dock ship USS Green Bay, with embarked 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), officially kicked off Exercise Cobra Gold 2017 in Sattahip, Thailand, earlier this week.
    • Engineers from have designed a 105 mm low blast overpressure muzzle brake for the howitzer. It’s the first large caliber muzzle brake designed specifically for an existing gun system.
    • Over the course of five days, medical personnel from the 379th Expeditionary Medical Operations Squadron and Royal Navy worked together to test their capabilities during coalition exercise Azraq Serpent.
    • U.S. Marines and Japanese Ground Self Defense Force soldiers train for aircraft emergency at Iron Fist.
