DoDLive Bloggers Roundtable: USS Bataan

We have scheduled a DoDLive Bloggers Roundtable with Cmdr. Melanie Merrick, USS Bataan Senior Medical Officer, Cmdr. William Wallace, Fleet Surgical Team (FST) 8 Officer-in-Charge and Lt. Cmdr. Seon Jones, FST 8 Surgeon, Tuesday, Jan. 19 at 1 p.m.

USS Bataan is en route to Haiti as part of the Bataan Amphibious Relief Mission to participate in Operation Unified Response. Cmdr. Merrick, Cmdr. Wallace and Lt. Cmdr. Jones will provide an update of the capabilities Bataan brings to the humanitarian relief mission.

Bataan was the first Navy ship on-scene in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina, a category-4 hurricane, made landfall. The ship spent 19 days supporting the relief efforts by moving more than 1,600 people to safety and delivering more than 160,000 pounds of supplies to the Gulf Coast of the United States.

    Royal Canadian Mounted Police assigned to a Marine Security Emergency Response Team debark from the HMCS Ville de Quebec (FFH 332) to conduct boarding operations during Exercise Frontier Sentinel 2012 May 8, 2012 at sea off Sydney, Nova Scotia. Exercise Frontier Sentinel is a combined interagency exercise involving Joint Task Force Atlantic, the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Navy Fleet Forces Command. The exercise is designed to continue to develop and validate the existing plans, treaties and standard operation procedures for a bilateral response to maritime homeland defense and security threats.
