Lance Cpl. Anthony Zavala, ammunition technician, Regimental Combat Team 7, dreamed of deploying to Afghanistan since he joined the Marine Corps two years ago. His dream almost did not come true when he suffered third degree burns on his hand. He was sent to a burn center in San Diego and was approved by a military doctor to deploy to Helmand province.
