Biden Visits U.S. Forces In Iraq

Vice President Joe Biden arrived in Baghdad to visit U.S. troops and meet with Iraqi leaders Jan. 22.

It is Biden’s third trip to Iraq in the past 12 months.  He will observe preparations that U.S. forces in Iraq are making in partnership with Iraqi security forces,  for the upcoming Iraqi elections in March.

Petraeus Discusses the Future in Afghanistan at Forum

The strategy in Afghanistan is one “of demonstrating that progress can be achieved,” the head of U.S. Central Command said Thursday during a military strategy forum at The Center for Strategic and International Studies here.

“We have to show progress, we have to show that it can be done over time,” Army Gen. David Petraeus, commander of U.S. Central Command, said during a military strategy forum at the center. The forum hosts senior Defense Department and military leaders to present their insight on the direction of national security and defense.

Petraeus discussed both Afghanistan and Iraq and said that he knew Afghanistan was going to be the longest campaign in “the long war.”
