In honor of PTSD Awareness Month, DoDLive, in coordination with the Real Warriors Campaign, hosted a bloggers roundtable on June 24. Real Warriors Campaign profilee Master Sgt. Aaron Tippett shared his story of reaching out for help and how it positively impacted his career and family life. Joining Tippett was Nancy St. Claire, Chief Operating Officer from our campaign partner Give an Hour. Nancy discussed the resources available for service members and their families.
The Real Warriors Campaign is a multimedia public awareness campaign designed to encourage help-seeking behavior among service members and veterans coping with invisible wounds. The campaign is an integral part of the Defense Department’s overall effort to eliminate the stigma associated with service members reaching out for care and support for psychological health concerns. At the heart of the campaign are the stories of real service members who reached out for support or care with successful outcomes, including learning coping skills, maintaining their security clearance and continuing to succeed in their military or civilian careers.
Joining us on the call were Alice Swan of DC Military Family Life; Dale Kissinger, of Military Avenue; Judy Davis, The Direction Diva; Malori Mayor, of Living a Warrior Life/Blog Assistant at Army Wife Network; Thom Goering, of Navy Cyberspace; Phyllis Zimbler Miller, of Mrs. Lieutenant Blog; Michele Cowell, of My Military Matters; and Yolanda Harrington, of Military Health Systems.
