The Newcomer

Family has a different meaning depending on what the term is in relation to. In this example, family means a battle buddy returning home from deployment. For the recently enlisted, home is the barracks that they reside in with other soldiers.

While home can be exciting to return to after deployment, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the environment isn’t stressful. This is precisely why new U.S. Army Pvt. Ileana Salguero took the time to bring into their home morale boosters for her new family as they return from Afghanistan.
