Assault Craft Unit 5 is a group of five Navy sailors assigned to the USS Boxer (LHD 4) with responsibility for operating a landing craft air cushion vehicle.
What’s a landing craft air cushion vehicle you ask? It’s an amphibious vehicle used to transport Marines and any equipment they need, including large vehicles, from ship to shore and even across certain types of terrain. Basically, it’s a really awesome hover craft that’s capable of carrying whatever Marines need to get their jobs done whether they’re on a humanitarian mission or storming a beach.
Each member of ACU 5 plays a different role on board their LCAC and couldn’t complete their mission without each other. Together they make sure their craft is performing at its best and is ready to take on anything.
