Here in the Department of Defense, we honor service members around the globe for their service and sacrifice daily. However, on Friday, May 10, we honor the service and sacrifice of their spouses on Military Spouse Appreciation Day.
As part of the DoD’s observance of Military Spouse Appreciation Day, DoDLive hosted a Bloggers Roundtable to discuss efforts to strengthen the education and career opportunities of military spouses.
Joining us to discuss the efforts were Meg O’Grady, manager of the Spouse Education and Career Opportunities program, and Marcus Beauregard, Chief, DoD-State Liaison Office. Both are from the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (Military Community and Family Policy).
Efforts to strengthening the education and career opportunities of military spouses include providing career exploration opportunities to help them understand their skills, interests, and goals; education and training to help them identify academic, licensing, or credentialing requirements that can help them reach their career goals; employment readiness assistance to optimize their self-marketing skills; and employment connections that help them find and maintain a rewarding career.
Bloggers on the call were Dale Kissinger, of Military Avenue; Bryant Jordan, of Military.com; Karen Jowers, of Military Times; Christine Gallagher, of National Military Family Association; and Adrianna Domingos-Lupher, of NextGen MilSpouse.
