Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center

Col. Jamie Grimes, MD, National Director of the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center

As part of Brain Injury Awareness month,  which is celebrated in March, we hosted a DoDLive Bloggers Roundtable on March 14, to discuss how the DoD has expanded its efforts to care for wounded warriors with traumatic brain injuries while promoting research to improve diagnosis and treatment.

Col. Jamie Grimes, MD, National Director of the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center (DVBIC) and Ms. Katherine Helmick, Deputy Director, DVBIC, also discussed what happens when a military member sustains a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), the differences in levels of severity used to describe them and efforts that might help others with recovery in the future.

Listen to the roundtable (MP3).

Joining us on the call were Meredith March, of Air Force Live; Chuck Simmins, of America’s North Shore Journal; and Wendy Polling, of My Military Life.

First off all Thank you for all you do and trying to service all our service members.

However it’s very sad to see as a spouse that your Blog site is only dedicated to service members only!

We as family members go through so much and suffer even more to see their loved ones change. We struggle to be heard and I believe we deserve to have a communication tool as well.
