Sometimes the call for valor comes when you least expect it.
SFC James McCord was driving the red 15 passenger van through Machesney Park in Illinois. It was the trail vehicle in the convoy he was riding in along with his other National Guard soldiers. Initially it started as a routine mission, until – in a split second – everything changed.
A semi-truck flipped over on the road in front of the convoy. They pulled to the side of the road and ran to the scene.
