Terrorism, illicit trafficking, natural disasters, poverty, crime, corruption, and human rights violations are all huge concerns globally. So just how do you combat all of these, on the continent that produces 18-39 billion dollars in wholesale drugs each year?
That’s a question Air Force Gen. Douglas M. Fraser, commander of U.S. Southern Command, has had to answer. His solution; Strengthen regional partnerships; increase partner capability; confront regional challenges; and support humanitarian and disaster responses. Essentially, we need to be good neighbors and partner with South American nations to become stronger, together.
The multination military exercise, Beyond the Horizon 2012 encompasses the highest hopes for making South America, Central America, and the Caribbean safer and healthier.
