Marie Tillman was at the White House representing The Pat Tillman Foundation.   Marie is the widow of Pat Tillman, the NFL player killed in 2004 by friendly fire in Afghanistan (his death was covered up by the Army.  Those responsible were whitewashed by both the Bush and Obama administrations).

Last year, Gen. Stanley McChrystal was appointed by President Obama to head the advisory board of the new “Joining Forces” program.   In response, Mary Tillman [Pat Tillman’s mother] said, “It’s a slap in the face to appoint this man” … “He deliberately helped cover up Pat’s death”… someone who has a heartfelt desire to help families would not have been involved in the cover-up of a soldier’s death…”

When asked about Mary’s remarks, Michelle Obama said, “we’re proud to have him [McChrystal] on board” and White House Press Secretary Carney said “that [President] Obama is “very aware … of the general’s résumé.”

Note:  For background, I would suggest reading Mick Brown’s October 2010 profile, “Betrayal of An All-American Hero, see the Jon Krakauer post (pp. 23-25)  at http://www.feralfirefighter.blogspot.com, Jake Tapper’s “ABC News Exclusive: Pat Tillman’s Mom Wants General Stanley McChrystal Removed From White House Post” (April 13, 2011) and Narda Zacchino’s “What Stanley McChrystal Did to Pat Tillman’s Family” (Truthdig.com, April 13, 2011):   “It is bewildering and tasteless, after McChrystal’s callous disregard for the Tillman family throughout this entire episode, that Barack Obama should appoint him to a high-profile position having anything to do with helping military families.”
