DoDLive Bloggers Roundtable: Federal Voting Assistance Program

Mr. Bob Carey, director, Federal Voting Assistance Program

On Thursday, Oct. 27, we held a DoDLive Bloggers Roundtable with Mr. Bob Carey, director, Federal Voting Assistance Program.

FVAP has released the 2010 post-election report, which shows a 21% increase in military voting, a 27% increase in military voters receiving ballots, and a 24% increase in military voters casting ballots.  It also shows broad increases in voter awareness of available voting assistance resources.

Unfortunately, it also shows 29% of the military never receiving their ballots, and 44% of local election officials sending out ballots after the 45-day deadline.  During the roundtable, Mr. Carey discussed how these disparate findings measure up against each other, what they indicate about the effectiveness of DoD’s programs, and what DoD plans to do in 2012.

Joining us on the call were Jared Serbu, of Federal News Radio; Dale Kissinger, of Military Avenue; Leo Shane, III, of Stars and Stripes; and Julie Weckerlein, of Armed with Science.

Listen to the roundtable here.
