Episode #86: Weekly News Roundup for May 13

In the “This Week in the DoD” podcast for May 13:

Flooding and tornadoes across the southern United States have caused massive damage. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and state National Guards are working to clean up wreckage and protect homes and other buildings from further damage.

The U.S. Air Force has grounded its fleet of about 165 F-22 Raptors after possible malfunctions in the aircraft’s oxygen delivery system. The stand-down order is in effect until officials determine the aircraft to be safe for flight.

The U.S. Navy has christened its newest guided-missile destroyer, the Pre-Commissioning Unit Michael Murphy. The destroyer is named after Medal of Honor recipient and Navy SEAL Lt. Michael Murphy, who died in pursuit of a top Taliban leader in Afghanistan in 2005.

Monday, May 16 marks the beginning of the 2nd annual Warrior Games in Colorado Springs, Colo. More than 200 wounded, ill or injured athletes from throughout the military will be competing in seven sports.
