Episode #71: Weekly News Roundup for Jan. 28

In the “DoD This Week” podcast for Jan. 28: In his second “State of the Union” address, President Barrack Obama voiced strong support for the military community while noting military success in Iraq and continued progress in Afghanistan, where American warfighters prevent the enemy from reemerging.
Deputy Secretary of Defense William Lynn III, presented to Congress the results of a Pentagon budgetary study, noting that defense leaders had cut 20 programs totaling $300 million in lifetime costs.
Secretary of Defense Robert Gates visited his Canadian counterpart to discuss cybersecurity, regional disaster relief and, notably, the shared F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program—which remains in good overall shape, though problematic.

President Barrack Obama on Monday unveiled a “revolutionary” new multi-agency plan to support America’s military families, announcing improvements to education, housing, health care and consumer protection.
