Website Military.com and USAA have teamed up to determine the best towns for retirement. But this isn’t a list of places to move when all you need for a good day is a book, hammock and a margarita — this top ten list is aimed at servicemembers leaving their “first career” with the military and transitioning to a civilian career.
Using metrics like proximity to military bases and Veteran’s Administration hospitals, tax rates on military pension and housing cost (areas where the median housing cost was 40 percent above the national median were excluded from the list), as well as the quality of education and recreation options, Military.com and USAA decided the following towns are prime real estate for the retiring servicemember (click “More” for the list):
