Episode #56: Weekly AFPS News Roundup for October 14

In the AFPS podcast for Oct. 14: U.S. Army Gen. David H. Petraeus, Commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan provided an update on the progress being made in Afghanistan; The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Adm. Mike Mullen said the military has a strategic imperative to set a good example in environmental conservation at the first Department of Defense Energy Security Forum; Navy Secretary Ray Mabus and President Barack Obama addressed the 10 year anniversary of the attack on the USS Cole on Oct. 12; Secretary of Defense Robert Gates met with Asian leaders last weekend at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations security meeting in Vietnam. Gates then flew to Beijing, China to discuss military relations after an receiving an invite from the Chinese Defense Minister; Oct. 13 marked the 235th birthday for the United States Navy, and Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead took the opportunity to thank sailors and Marines, past and present for their service and sacrifice; and The U.S. Postal Service sent out their guidelines and deadlines for holiday shipping.
