To learn more about the relief efforts in Pakistan, read the latest transcript from an interview with Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates en route to Tampa, Fla., Aug. 11. During the flight, Gates discussed the impact of the flooding in Pakistan. “The flooding in Pakistan has the potential to be significantly more disastrous for the country than the earthquake of several years ago,” Gates said. “And so we’re pleased to do what we can, to help the Pakistani government and military demonstrate their capacity and their intention to care for their own people.”
