Navy Planning to Add Female Sailors to Submarine Fleet

The Navy is planning to integrate female sailors into its submarine fleet according to Military.com. The submarine fleet, considered to be one of the most elite communities in the Navy, has been exclusive to men until now.

The integration has presented many challenges including making room for a new gender on board when space is already at a premium and concerns from sailors, veterans and spouses about privacy.

Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead said that he feels comfortable addressing issues of women on submarines and that he is, “committed to giving diversity in the Navy his full attention.”

Secretary of the the Navy Ray Mabus said, “the Navy will continue to move aggressively on the issue.”

I was always curious to see the interior design of cabins in a submarine. Even more curious I was when I read news that there will be women sailors – what changes will make for one berth.
