Official Provides Update on H1N1 Vaccine

The H1N1 vaccine is in mass production and is scheduled to be ready for the public by mid October, a government official said Sept. 1.

Eventually everyone will have access to the vaccine but it will initially be available to the uniform personnel, Lt. Col. Wayne Hachey, director of Preventive Medicine for the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs, Force Health Protection and Readiness said during an interview with the Pentagon Channel.

“What we want to do is target those people who are at the highest risk of transmission,” said Hachey. “So that would include deployed forces, health care workers, and also people in training sites.”
