DoDLive Bloggers Roundtable: U.S. Army Col. Daniel S. Roper

In a wide-ranging discussion with bloggers and journalists, on Thursday, Sept. 17, U.S. Army Col. Daniel S. Roper, director, U.S. Army and Marine Corps Counterinsurgency Center at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, explained a change in mindset that he says is essential to conducting an effective counterinsurgency. He described tactics underway in both Afghanistan and Iraq, including the deployment of 29 “human terrain teams,” each with five to eight sociologists, anthropologists and other regional experts.
