Daily SITREP: DoD’s Top Medical Official Reflects, Air Force Drops Toys & More

Guice departsDr. Karen S. Guice, acting assistant secretary of defense for health affairs, presents the keynote address opening the 2016 Military Health System Research Symposium in Orlando, Fla.

From the military services and around the DoD, here’s your Daily SITREP for Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016.

    • As she prepares to step down Jan. 20, the Defense Department’s top medical official reflects on her five-and-a-half year tenure at the Pentagon, notably a comprehensive review of the Military Health System.
    • More than 4,000 sailors and Marines from the Wasp Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) completed a six-month deployment when the ships arrived at Norfolk Naval Station and Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, just before Christmas.
    • Instead of snow above North Carolina’s frigid skies, the horizon was filled with paratroopers as they ‘flurried’ to the ground, during the 19th annual Randy Oler Memorial Operation Toy Drop.
